A product template is a versatile design setup that combines a Printful product with your print file. It’s saved exclusively in your Printful Dashboard and isn’t tied to any particular store, offering a swift and adaptable method for launching new products across various integrations.
Product templates contain only universal product details, such as product type, print file, and color, making them compatible with any integration that supports product push.
What does a product template include?
The details depend on the product type, and they’re based on what affects the final printed result. Here are a couple of examples:
- T-shirts: color + print file (not size, since the print area stays the same across most sizes).
- Posters: size + print file (because different sizes have different print areas).
How to create a product template
- Go to your Dashboard → Product templates.
- Click Create product.
- Choose a product, upload your design, and save it.
Creating a template is similar to creating a product, just with fewer steps. It’s not possible to set pricing or write descriptions.
How to use a product template
1. Add products to your store
There are two ways to do this:
- Go to Stores → Add product, then open the My product templates tab to choose your template.
- Or go to Dashboard → Product templates, hover over the template you want, and click Add to store.
If you don’t see the option to add products to the store from your Stores section, head to the My products section → Product templates → hover over the product template → click Publish.
From there, you’ll fill out store-specific details like descriptions, pricing, and size options before publishing it.
2. Order products for yourself
To place a personal order using a template:
- Go to Dashboard → New order.
- Select the store or Personal orders.
- Open the My product templates tab.
- Pick a template and complete the order as usual.
Can I edit a template?
Yes. But keep in mind that product templates and store products aren’t synced. If you edit a template after it’s already been added to a store, the published product won’t update. Likewise, changes made during the product publishing (adding to the store) won’t change the saved template.
- Go to Product templates.
- Hover over the one you want to edit.
- Click Edit.
